Where the seaweed goes, and when

Location matters more than the calendar. Tulum and Akumal face the open ocean and take the worst of it; Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos sit in the middle; the north Hotel Zone and Isla Mujeres stay clearest, partly from the shape of the coast and partly from daily cleanup.

2026 broke records. February was already at record highs for the month, March ran 15–20% above March 2025, and June set a Caribbean record. Treat these months as a baseline, not a promise, and check live conditions the week before you fly.
